Sneak Peak Album Review of "Stronger with Each Tear" by Mary J Blige

Rich Jones
For as long as I could remember Mary J Blige has been one of the most well known RNB artists in the world. She has also become quite famous for having a bad attitude and being hard to work with. If a person becomes this famous despite her poor attitude then it is usually indicates that the person has an immense amount of talent. That is probably one of the best ways a person would describe Mary is talented. She is so talented that she was asked this year to perform at the World Series located at Yankee Stadium and she did an amazing job. She has also performed songs with Jay-z, DMX, and even 50 Cent. Additionally, she was asked to perform at the inauguration of President Barack Obama.

This fact along with the fact that she has recently toured with popular RNB artist Robin Thicke means that there is a lot of interest in her music at this time for her upcoming project. Not that there wasn't a ton of interest before in her previous eight records which sold millions. She has also won an amazing amount of Grammy Awards and is easily one of the most popular female singers in the world today. For these reasons I was very excited to hear her new album and I was able to listen to it through Youtube and I was surprised at just how good the new project was. I have been a fan for some time and this CD is better than I expected.

The album has 12 tracks in total and does not include any featured artists. This CD is all Mary so if you love her past work then you will love this CD. If you don't then this is not the cup of tea that you are looking for. The reason being that the subject on this album is pretty depressing in tone and substance. It is about suffering through the pain of love and the strength found on the other side of love. This is a common theme for Mary but this album reminds me of artists such as Bright Eyes and Elliot Smith. Mary have songs about strength such as the album track "I Feel Good" and "I Am" which go well with the more depressing tracks such as "The One" and "Good Love". The material on this album is a balance between pain and strength and Mary walks that line well. This album is 4/5 and I suggest that you pick this up when it arrives in stores.
