Sneak Peak Album Review of Unplugged by Katy Perry

Katy Perry is probably one of the most well know Pop Stars in the world today. Many people do not know her name but they know her either for her over-the-top dressing and antics or her smash hit I Kissed A Girl which was one of the most popular Pop music songs in the last decade. One thing that is unique about Katy is that she has a lot of talent, which is not usually expected of a Pop act. Katy has a great voice and she also knows how to play the guitar. She is multi-talented but this is not something that comes across when you hear her talk about kissing a girl on the radio 3000 times a day.

I must first say I find that song annoying and you probably do also but I enjoy the voice that Katy has and this is the reason I pre ordered her CD titled Unplugged. For those that don't know Unplugged is a concept that MTV came up with in which artists perform their music live and acoustic without all the machines that usually lend sound to a track. Other MTV Unplugged released included Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen, Lauren Hill, Eric Clapton, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys.

These are some big names to live up to but I knew that Katy had a great voice so I decided to pre order the CD. In the man time, I thought I would listen to on Youtube and I must say I am very happy with the project. There are 7 songs included here on the CD and 8 videos included with the DVD that comes along with the CD. For some reason, Katy reminds me of Dolly Parton because of her vocals on this CD. To my surprise I actually liked this version of I Kissed A Girl because you can hear the vocals and lyrics easily here.

The band also does a great job of blending beats are switching the tempo on songs so that the live concert feel is given off nicely. The best song is Thinking of You. The song is about someone she wants to be with and this is her method of telling him. I also enjoyed the track titled Ur So Gay it is basically a power selection. The videos included are just a visual representation of the songs but they make a nice bonus. I would rate this a 4/5 but it is enjoyable.
