Sneak Peak Album Review of The Untold Story by Bone Thugs

Rich Jones
Bone Thugs is a group that took the world by storm in 1997 when they released the song "Tha Crossroads" and for this track they won a Grammy award. The song is about death and meeting loved ones on the other side, missing those people and wanting to be reunited in death with them. The song is mostly the song was about their mentor and Hip Hop legend Easy-E. The reason he was a legend was became he was a member of NWA with Ice Cube and Dr. Dre who were one of the most successful Rap groups ever in music. Eazy-E also discovered Bone Thugs when they took the bus to California from their hometown of Cleveland. He stopped them as super stars and signed them and since 1994 when he signed them to Ruthless Records they have become super stars.

They have sold millions of records according to the Billboard sales charts available at Billboard.com. They released two greatest hits albums and they signed with Full Surface Records and super producer Swizz Beatz in 1997. However, one missing member has been Flesh because he was jailed for gun charges for a total of 10 years. Flesh has now been released and Bone should be back to making music on par with their earlier (and best ) album "East 1999". This is the reason I pre ordered their new album titled "The Untold Story" which also goes by the name "Uni5" via their website and I was able to listen to the album via Youtube before it arrives in stores.

The album includes 16 tracks and features Kelly Rowland (formally of Destiny's Child), chamillionaire, Mariah Carey, Fat Joe, Petey Pablo, Kanye West and Swizz Beatz. The best tracks on the CD in "your Luv is" and "Summer Luv" because these are upbeat and the Swizz Beatz production on these rivals that of DJ U-Neek who is their former producer. With that being said, the weakness of this album is that the hardcore material is gone here. How can a group singing about love have the same Bone Thug style as they once did. The presence of Flesh is missing here on a majority of the tracks and while I enjoyed the song featuring Kanye West, the song featuring Mariah is quite old. This is a solid CD and I would give it a 2/5 but do not expect to find much Bizzy Bone or Flesh Bone material here.
