Sneak Peak Album Review of Youth and Revolt Soundtrack Compilation CD

Rich Jones
What I enjoy most about watching a movie is that you are exposed to new music. I typically go and see the newest movies and the soundtracks to these films sometimes have some amazing music. This is the reason that I usually look into upcoming soundtracks because I find that they offer the best value from your money. Soundtracks are the only form of musical release that allows you to experience a collection of music instead of just one artist. Typically you would need to know artists that you enjoy in order to buy their music but I love soundtracks because you discover artists that you would otherwise have never listened to. They may be outside of the normal everyday listening for you but they are usually very well known to others and this means that you would otherwise miss out. This is why I believe that soundtracks off a great experience that can't be duplicated by any other album released. In the past I have discovered some of my favorite artists on the soundtrack to Juno including Dearest by Buddy Holly and Superstar by Sonic Youth. For this reason I decided to pre order the Youth And Revolt compilation CD via Amazon but I thought I would listen to the CD via Youtube before it arrives to see what I would be getting.

The CD features 12 tracks and the length of the CD is about 30 minutes in total. Four of the tracks are under two minutes and this is essentially a waste of space to me. I wish they had included more songs on this CD because there is some very good material. The featured artists on this CD include Fruit Bats, Little Wings, Jacques Dutronc, Fatlip, Fleshpot, John Swihart, and Jo Stafford amongst others. The best songs on the CD are When U Love Somebody, Popular Mechanics For Lovers, and What's Up Fatlip. The track What's Up Fatlip is by far the best track on the album and this song alone is worth the price of the CD. You will not be able to buy single tracks on Itunes because they require that you buy the entire CD. The problem is that other than those great tracks the album is filled with junk. I wouldn't pay money for skits so I rate this album 2/5 because it could have been a lot better than it turned out to be.
