Sneak Peak Review of Children's DVD Angelina Ballerina: Love to Dance

This is a sneak peak review of the children's DVD Angelina Ballerina: Love to Dance. It comes from Lionsgate and HiT Entertainment and is due out in stores August 31. This animated character is currently a fixture on the children's-themed network called PBS KIDS Sprout. I was provided a review copy of Angelina Ballerina: Love to Dance, but was under no obligation to recommend it. My observations are my own.

Synopsis of the Children's DVD Angelina Ballerina: Love to Dance

Angelina and other cheese-loving mice get their artistic training at the Camembert Academy, of which four of the animated shorts principally take place. But she also finds solace and love with her parents and younger sister at home. The first short, called Angelina's New School, features the main character going to the academy for the first time, where she soon worries about not being able to fit in. In Angelina's Dance Partner, the ballerina learns that having a partnership means sharing each other's ideas rather than forcing all yours on someone else. The ballerina's best friend from another school gets to meet Angelina's school chums in Angelina's Oldest Friend, but the group is at odds over how to play "school." In Angelina's Sleepover, the mouse has her dancing cohorts Viki and Gracie spend the night, but learns a hard lesson about what happens when one stays up late instead of go to sleep at a decent hour. The final short in this children's DVD, Angelina and the Hip Hop Kid, sees a hip hop dancing mouse named "AZ" win over the female dancers until he tries to apply hip hop to ballet, irritating the main character.

The bonus features include two short music videos and a game called "Angelina Says" where she gets viewers to do dance moves via the traditional "Simon Says" format. I recommend Angelina Ballerina: Love to Dance for children because animation is a powerful tool to teach good values in a fun, engaging way. Kids will especially learn from this children's DVD to appreciate their own as well as other people's unique gifts, to share ideas, and to keep commitments.
