This is a sneak peek review of the animated DVD Shaun the Sheep: Animal Antics. It's due for release by Lionsgate and HiT Entertainment on July 26. I was provided a copy of this video for review, but was under no obligation to recommend it. My observations are my own.
Synopsis of the animated DVD Shaun the Sheep: Animal Antics
Seven episodes make up this video, where the mischievous farm animals wreak some more havoc on the farm. First, in "Foxy Laddie," the fox disguises himself as a sheep so he can get at the lamb Timmy for dinner, but the sheep keep on stifling his evil plan. In "Whistleblower," the sheepdog Bitzer is given the charge of fixing up Farmer's house, but he finds a trumpet to use to help make the sheep and the Naughty Pigs do his work for him until it backfires. In "Frantic Romantic," the sheep try to come to the rescue in making the Farmer and his date a gourmet meal after they ruin their picnic outside by pinching their food. "Who's the Caddy?" sees Shaun the Sheep and Bitzer play a destructive round of golf, but the Farmer's bad back interferes with the pooch's recreation time.
In "Everything Must Go," Bitzer gets tired of minding the successful food and then rummage stand, so he lets Shaun take over, leading to the Farmer's possessions all being sold off. The sixth feature in this animated DVD is called "In the Doghouse," where the sheep try to keep Bitzer from running away after his dog house is destroyed, due to their nighttime partying. The final short is called "Cock-a-Doodle Shaun," featuring the main character and sheepdog attempting to foil the fox's plot to cook the rooster for dinner. The bonus features include a presentation on children making some Naughty Pigs of their own as well as a short music video featuring Timmy Time (a spin off of the show) characters.
Shaun the Sheep: Animal Antics Delivers Many Chuckles
The characters once again deliver many chuckles because of their bratty behavior, and will provide excellent entertainment for both kids and adults. The animation is top rate and the storylines move really fast, and I found it refreshing to see a character I'd never watched before, that being the fox. And thus, I recommend this video. This animated DVD will be available at retail outlets like Amazon.com on July 26 and can be heard in English. Its Suggested Retail Price is $14.98. The running time is about 45 minutes.
