This is a sneak peek review of the animated holiday DVD Shaun the Sheep: We Wish Ewe A Merry Christmas. It's due for release by Lionsgate and HiT Entertainment on October 18. I was provided a copy of this video for review, but was under no obligation to recommend it. My observations are my own.

Synopsis of the Animated Holiday DVD Shaun the Sheep: We Wish Ewe A Merry Christmas

Seven episodes make up this video, three of which are themed on the winter season. For once, the gang is not bratty in "We Wish Ewe a Merry Christmas," where they try to make for a memorable Christmas Day for the Farmer, since it appears he's all alone and doesn't even have a nice tree nor presents. In "Snowed In," high snow drifts mean the sheep mess around, including throwing snowballs, while the Farmer tries to get out of the house. In "Fireside Favorite," Pidsley the cat and Bitzer fight over the coveted spot in front of the fireplace, but the dog has Shaun as an ally.

In the fourth episode of this animated holiday DVD, "An Ill Wind," Farmer is tired of the high electrical bills, so he goes "green," building a windmill, but the farm animals ruin his energy-saving plan by using it as a Ferris wheel. In "Bitzer's New Hat," the sheep dog's master regifts him a gawdy-looking hat, so bad and upsetting, that the sheep try to find him a better one. In "Chip Off the Old Block," the Farmer's big block of stone crushes lamb Timmy's teddy bear, so the sheep try to get at it while distracting the sculpting activity. Finally, in "Shirley Whirley," the very obese ewe Shirley has so much trouble getting around, the sheep put her on a swivel chair to move around, but the plan backfires. The bonus features include a sheep shearing game.

Shaun the Sheep: We Wish Ewe A Merry Christmas Will Make a Wonderful Gift for the Holiday Season

The first episode of this product is really touching and is shot beautifully, one that will get any Scrooge in a good mood. And the chuckles will continue for well over a half hour via the other six episodes as the farm animals, including the Naughty Pigs, continue their usual misbehavior. So I recommend this video.

This animated DVD is about 45 minutes in length. It will be available at retail outlets like Amazon.com on October 18 and can be heard in English. Its Suggested Retail Price is $14.98. For more information about Shaun the Sheep, go to his website here

What a cute title and a fantastic way to make children aware of high electric bills, going green and how to enjoy a cold day in front of the t.v. while laughing at naughty animals. Great review Roy.
