This is a sneak peek review of the children's DVD Barney: Musical Zoo. This product comes from Lionsgate and HiT Entertainment and is due to be released January 4. Barney: Musical Zoo was provided to me for review, but I was under no obligation to recommend it. My observations are my own.

Synopsis and Review of the Children's DVD Barney: Musical Zoo

Music takes an even bigger role in this video, which contains three episodes. Riff plays important roles in each feature. First, in "Riff's Musical Zoo", a visit to the zoo is canceled, which makes Baby Bop upset. So led by Riff, instruments from all over the world are used to make sounds like animals. In "Special Skills", Riff uses his knowledge and skills of/with instruments to help in creating a musical about the "Three Little Pigs", where the gang even gets interactive with the audience watching in the park through song and dance. The final episode in this children's DVD is called "Rhythm", which sees BJ, Baby Bop, and Riff desire to start a marching band, but Baby Bop especially has trouble understanding the concept of rhythm. In between episodes are two mini music videos about "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round."

The bonus features in Barney: Musical Zoo include an "Animal Sounds" matching game and a Timmy Time episode called "Timmy's Plane," where the Shaun the Sheep character has mishaps with his paper airplane.

More about the Children's DVD Barney: Musical Zoo

I strongly recommend this video because there's a lot of creativity and imagination that is illustrated throughout the three episodes, especially when it comes to using everyday items to make instruments. And witnessing Barney's version of trying to be a hip hop/rap artist during a couple of songs is rather entertaining. This children's DVD runs about 40 minutes in length and has English and Spanish language choices. Barney: Musical Zoo has a Suggested Retail Price of $14.98, and will be available at retail outlets like Amazon.com on January 4.
