Sneak Peek Review of the Children's Book About Ireland Megan's Year: An Irish Traveler's Story
Due for Release August 1, 2011
Synopsis and Review of the Children's Book about Ireland Megan's Year: An Irish Traveler's Story
This 32 page book tells the story of a ten year old girl named Megan, who is in a "Traveler" family, one that ekes out its living by going around the country in a trailer when possible, doing odd jobs for folks during the warmer months of mainly summer. This is Megan's happiest time, for she and her siblings get to experience the great outdoors as her father looks for a place to work and set up the trailer. Megan even helps make some money for the family when it's time to pick potatoes or berries. Her family meets with other "Travelers," who have a special language and fellowship all their own.
Yet she is unhappiest once the cold returns, and her family has to return to live in a hut in Dublin, and take handouts. That's when Megan attends school. Megan's got the travel bug in her, but must tough it out until summer comes again in Ireland, where she and her family can hit the open road yet again.
I do strongly recommend this title for a couple of important reasons. First, the narrative of the story gives a real sense of place, brings Ireland to life. The illustrations by Beth Peck have a combination of a water color-Impressionist look to them, which causes them to give off a special warmth, adding to the story, which will help children appreciate a special place in this world called Ireland.
This children's book about Ireland is scheduled to be available at retail outlets like Amazon.com on August 1, 2011, and its Suggested Retail Price is $16.95.
