Synopsis and Review of the Children's Book Frog and Friends

Three stories make up this 40 page book about the goings on in a pond that's inhabited by an inquisitive frog and his animal friends like a raccoon, possum, rabbit, and squirrel. The first story is called "Frog Goes Up, Up, Up." An orange balloon lands in the pond, but neither Frog nor his friends have any idea what it is, but will soon be taken on a brief, comedic adventure when he grabs hold of the balloon's string. Then in "Frog's Pretty Blue Scarf," Racoon knits a nice scarf for the main character after hearing he has a bad cold, but he can't make it fit, so it's "regifted" to Rabbit, who also has issues with it, until eventually, the gift is passed around until finally it finds its proper home through some ingenuity. The final story in this children's book is called "Frog and Hippo," where a runaway hippopotamus from the zoo finds his way to the pond, and wears out his welcome since he hogs the whole thing, so Frog has to make Hippo want to go back to the zoo without hurting his guest's feelings.

This is a cute little series of stories that parents can help their Grades 1-2 children read aloud, and get some chuckles in the process with help of the colorful illustrations by Josee Masse. The kids will learn to appreciate the value of having friendships, especially in thinking about how to be tactful to their chums, through these three adventures.
