Sneak Peek Review of the Children's Holiday-Themed Book A Christmas Spider's Miracle
Due for Release September 1, 2011
Synopsis and Review of the Children's Holiday-Themed Book A Christmas Spider's Miracle
This 32 page book is based on a Ukrainian tale, according to the author's note that precedes the story. It tells the story about how two moms came together one Christmas Eve to make for a memorable Christmas for their children. One mother was a very poor villager who eked out a living from ironing and mending and felt really bad that she had no gifts to give her children. So she went out on a very cold night and found a small fir tree, and brought it back home. Only with scraps and broken bits of items for ornaments, this mom couldn't find anything worthy to put on the tree. What she didn't realize is that tree contained a spider and her babies, and this mother was so touched by being taken indoors on such a cold winter's night, she thanked the other mom by using her weaving skills to create a memorable Christmas Day.
I strongly recommend this book because children will really get a good message about what the holiday season or any day is about: having loved ones to make sure they are safe and secure. The storytelling by Noble is very touching and compelling while the illustrations by Costanza give off a special kind of warmth and make one think of this special time of year.
