Available from SISU Home Entertainment on September 27

This is a sneak peek review of the children's DVD Shalom Sesame: Adventures in Israel. This product is Volume 12 of a twelve part series teaching children about Jewish life and culture. I was provided a review copy of this Shalom Sesame DVD, but wasn't under any obligation to recommend it. My observations are my own.

Synopsis of the Children's DVD Shalom Sesame: Adventures in Israel

The gang prepares to throw a going away party for Anneliese van der Pol, who came from America to explore Israel. Grover is supposed to handle the balloon delivery, but when he gets them, he ends up taking off in the air and gets a bird's eye view of Israel. He sees a grand oasis, the Dead Sea, and more. Meanwhile, van der Pol gets the rest of her exploring done, visiting Tel Aviv, ruins, etc. Between the story, there are little vignettes where Hebrew letters and numbers are focused on, the latter with the help of Count von Count and Bert. Additionally, Israeli children share a slice of their lives at the beach and at an archeological activity. Grover does a video "postcard" from Haifa.

The bonus features include a singalong / karaoke set to the tune "Rubber Duckie" by Ernie in Hebrew as well as another music video with much of the cast called "There Must Be Another Way."

More about the Children's DVD in the Shalom Sesame Series

This product is a real treat to watch. American children, through this video (and others in this series), will have the opportunity to appreciate the Jewish culture and travel sites through a universally-loved program Israeli-style; and thus, I strongly recommend this DVD.

The running time for Adventures in Israel totals about 52 minutes (including 25 minutes of bonus material). The Suggested Retail Price for this Shalom Sesame children's DVD is $14.95, and will be available at retail outlets like Amazon.com on September 27. This video is in English (except for the Hebrew-featured pronunciations/words). For more information about this series, go to Shalom Sesame's website here.
