Due for Release on October 11

This is a sneak peek review of the children's holiday DVD Thomas & Friends: Merry Christmas Thomas. This product is due out from Lionsgate and HiT Entertainment on October 11. I was provided a review copy of the children's DVD, but was under no obligation to recommend it . My observations are my own.

Synopsis of the Children's Holiday DVD Thomas & Friends: Merry Christmas Thomas

Four episodes make up this video, which sees the tank engine get himself and the other engines in some binds, but he ultimately makes up for his mistakes. First, in "Let It Snow," the main character gets distracted on Misty Island trying to make it snow through acting on the instructions of an island song, which frustrates Gordon, who's along to pick up some logs. Next, in "Surprise, Surprise," Thomas wants to have a surprise party for three out-of-service engines in the steamworks, but his scheming interferes with the repair work done by Victor. In "Percy the Snowman," the tank engine wants his best friend Percy to help escort Sir Topham Hatt to a Christmas event, but he hurries so much trying to get his chores done, that he inadvertently covers Percy in snow every time he passes him. Finally, in "Tree Trouble," Thomas takes on the diesels to see who can find the grandest Christmas tree, but his obsession with winning causes a fiasco.

On the continuous play mode and in between episodes, viewers get to see how Driver Perkins manages to stay warm without any coal initially to heat up the frigid break room. It could really make you feel cold watching this struggle. The bonus feature includes a game where children have to choose the right tracks to help make Christmas deliveries to the other engines.

More about the Children's Holiday DVD Thomas & Friends: Merry Christmas Thomas

Once again, the engines, especially the main character, learn about being useful while gaining more maturity. The lessons conveyed to viewers include not being afraid to express one's needs; not to be a know-it-all; and making the best of a less than ideal situation. The animation and sound are top notch as usual, and this DVD will go great with some hot cocoa on a cold autumn or winter's night. I strongly recommend this video.

The running time is about 50 minutes and can be heard in English, French, or Spanish. The Suggested Retail Price is $14.98. You can purchase this product via retail outlets, including Amazon.com, beginning October 11. For more information about Thomas & Friends, go to the official website
