This is a sneak peek review of the children's DVD "Barney: I Love My Friends." This product comes from Lionsgate and HiT Entertainment. The video was just released and is widely available. I was provided a copy of this product for review, but was under no obligation to recommend it. My observations are my own.

Synopsis of the "Barney & Friends" video

Some children are playing with a bunch of stuffed animals in the park, and wish to be able to take them all around the public space, but find there isn't enough room in a small wagon to include them all. After Barney shows up, he helps them find the solution, but not before telling the kids stories about friendship in action through activities like baseball, singing, and dancing. This includes the purple and green dinosaur's version of the "Princess and the Frog," plus when Riff has to make amends for crashing BJ's scooter by holding a rummage sale, and remembering a time when BJ's feelings were hurt when he wasn't included in a baseball drawing by his friends.

The bonus features include a read-along to "Barney's Book of Hugs" and an animated sing-along to a "Barney & Friends" staple tune called "If You Are Happy And You Know It."

"Barney: I Love My Friends" covers many aspects of being a true friend

I strongly recommend this video, as little children will learn through the engaging and fast-paced storylines what being a friend is all about. The lessons that come to life include coming through for another even if it doesn't always feel good, sharing, making up for a mistake, the inclusion of others, taking turns, forgiveness after being hurt, and not being afraid to communicate after one's feelings are hurt.

This video can be heard in both English and Spanish and runs about 57 minutes in length, not counting the bonus features. The children's DVD has a Suggested Retail Price of $14.98. Barney: I Love My Friends is available at retail outlets like Amazon.com, and was released on January 3. For more information about "Barney & Friends," go to the dinosaur's website here
