Synopsis and Review of the DVD Set of Shaun the Sheep: Season One
This program is one of the most hilarious animated shows ever created, where being bratty is the "right thing to do." The Farmer just doesn't realize, because of his naivety, how much zany trouble his four-footed possessions constantly start and get into. The episodes are prefaced with a catchy theme song and some underlying banjo playing during the airings for effect. The main character, Shaun the Sheep, is fit and trim and knows how to perform many neat soccer moves while basically managing the zaniness at the farm. Bitzer has the toughest time of all the characters, as he tries to fit in with the farm animals but also must balance that with trying to be faithful to his master, The Farmer. The Naughty Pigs are the antagonists of the sheep, always waiting to get their comedic licks in between wallowing in the mud. Shirley is the fattest of the sheep, for she'll eat anything and often does. Timmy, a lamb, is spoiled and bratty, but in such an endearing way.
The funniest of the 40 episodes from this DVD set Shaun the Sheep: Season One include "The Bull", where Shaun antagonizes a mean bull, but keeps the spat going by playing "matador" while the Naughty Pigs do their part to help the bull "see red." In "Shape Up with Shaun", the sheep's leader is tired of dealing with Shirley's obesity, so he puts her on a tough training regimen in the spirit of "Rocky" that works too good, at least temporarily. "Take Away" has some of the sheep disguising themselves as a person so they can get some pizza in town, while "Still Life" sees Shaun and his gang use the Farmer's paints to create their own masterpieces. "Who's the Mummy?" sees baby chicks take to Shaun as their mother because he saw them hatch first.
There are many extras in this Shaun the Sheep: Season One DVD set (which are in the second video), including games and videos like "Whack-A-Pig" Game, where players try hit the Naughty Pigs with cabbage. The "Sheep-Shearing" Game lets players do some creative shearing on Shirley. And viewers get an inside look of how the animated program is made via "The Mini Making of Shaun" video.
Shaun the Sheep: Season One Will Generate Laughs, Giggles, and Chuckles Aplenty
I strongly recommend this compilation, because each episode in Shaun the Sheep: Season One generates chuckles, giggles, and laughs, no matter what the situation is with these bratty farm animals, who find new ways to misbehave and raise some ruckus. This DVD set will be available at retail outlets like Amazon.com on October 19. Its Suggested Retail Price is only $29.98 for 40 episodes and extras. The running time is about 280 minutes and is in English. For more information about Shaun the Sheep, go to his website here
I was provided a review copy of Shaun the Sheep: Season One, but was under no obligation to recommend it. My observations are my own.
