May 14 Robin Hood Russell Crowe as Robin Hood. This adaptation takes us back in time a bit further than most, giving us the back story on the famous outlaw of Nottingham. Rated PG-13.
May 21 Shrek Forever After The 4th and final Shrek movie. Shrek finds himself in an alternate universe and is treated to a portrayal of how his friend's lives would have been different if he'd never existed. Get ready for a whole new set of puns and one-liners and a lot of action as all of the major characters from the earlier movies are back for a final trip to Far, Far Away. Rated PG.
May 21 The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya If you live near San Francisco or in Hawaii, you can be part of a select few Americans who get to see this film adaptation of the popular Japanese light novel series. The film will have English subtitles. A DVD version will be released later, dubbed with English audio.
May 28 Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Produced by Walt Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer, this movie based on a video game is a story of an orphan who becomes a prince and must search for and protect a special dagger that can release a sandstorm that can destroy the world if it falls into the wrong hands. Action, adventure, intrigue and a bit of romance are main components of this thriller. Rated PG-13.
June 4 Marmaduke Fans of the single-panel comic strip featuring a large and lovable Great Dane may want to see what happens when Marmaduke and his family move to California. We learn about life from the pets' point of view as the animals can all talk, at least to each other and to the audience. Rated PG.
June 11 The Karate Kid This remake of the popular movie from 1984 puts a slightly different spin on this coming-of age story, with a single mother moving to China, where her son has the opportunity to learn Kung Fu from a master. Rated PG.
June 11 The A-Team is the story of a group of former Special Ops soldiers who escape from military prison after being arrested for something they didn't commit. This gritty remake of the TV series should appeal to fans of Batman Begins and the Jason Bourne movies. Rated PG-13.
June 18 Toy Story 3 is the long-awaited third installment of the movie that launched Pixar Entertainment's successful career in movie making. Toy Story, made in 1995, told the story of Andy's toys, led by Sheriff Woody, who's position as leader is threatened when Andy gets Buzz Lightyear for his birthday. 1999's Toy Story 2 continued the story as Woody is stolen by an unscrupulous toy collector and the rest of the toys launch a rescue mission. This summer's installment starts off as the toys are accidentally donated to a day care center, and portrays their adventures on the trip back home when they learn that Andy is looking for them. Rated G.
July 2 The Last Airbender is the movie version of the anime TV series called Avatar. The movie, directed by M. Night Shyamalan, is not animated but filmed with live actors, including Noah Ringer as 12 year old Aang as the title character who must save the world from the evil Fire Lord. Rated PG-13.
July 9 Despicable Me is another 3-D animated comedy. This one features Gru, a determined bad guy whose a plan to steal the moon take a different turn when he finds himself foster parent to three orphans. Rated PG.
July 14 The Sorcerer's Apprentice stars Nicolas Cage in the title role. This save-the-world-from-evil movie is set in New York City. Rated PG.
July 23 Ramona and Beezus retells the popular children's story by Beverly Cleary. Starring Selena Gomez as Beezus, this light-hearted comedy is sure to be a hit with fans of the Disney Channel. Rated G.
July 30 Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore puts the ongoing conflict between canine and feline forces on hold when the two species are forced to combine their efforts to defeat a sinister spy cat bent on world domination. Rated PG.
