SNES Game Review - Bass Masters Classic Pro Edition

Natasha Fox
The game Bass Masters Classic Pro Edition was released by Black Pearl in 1996 as an enhanced version of Bass Masters Classic. It was also released for the SNES console, so if you don't have a Genesis there's no need to worry. The game is rather simplistic, you fish, however there are two modes of game play: amateur versus pro.
Bass Masters Classic Pro Edition doesn't really have a plot or storyline. All you do is pick a character, get some bait, and head out to your boat to fish. Now once you pick the spot where you desire to fish, just cast out your line; wait for a bass then wait for a fish. Once you have your fish reel them in and get your rankings. It seems to me it is a lather, rinse, repeat kind of game, but hey some people find fishing therapeutic so if they can achieve that at home I'm not going to knock it.
The graphics are beyond their time at times and at others there's much to be desired. In Bass Masters Classic Pro Edition I give kudos for the details of the people, they have very detailed faces which is impressive for the year 1996. However while you're in the boat there's not many chances for them to give me a chance to rate the graphics. I wish they would have added some foliage or trees just to make it seem more realistic.
Once again I find a game with background music that makes me grind my teeth, this time it isn't so much the beat as it's the underlying screech. However once you get into the water its better, the music goes away and you're left with the calming sound of water and your line cranking away. That is until you catch a fish then it's a return to music, this however is better due to the fact there's no screech, however the music loops about every three seconds so it can get monotonous pretty fast. I give the sound for Bass Masters Classic Pro Edition a low four; it leaves much to be desired with the background music. There are games that were released before this
The controls for Bass Masters Classic Pro Edition is simple no one should have trouble learning them in the least bit. All you do is move around in the boat, cast your line and reel 'em in. The replay value for this game is high if you like fishing, if not then you become bored with it quickly and will mostly be one of those games you simply forget about.
Most gamers would give an 7 out of 10 to Bass Masters Classic Pro Edition, I however give it a 5 due to the lack of appeal I have in the idea of pretending to fish (I don't even like the real activity)!
