Snitches Get Stitches?

You Mean If I Saw What Happened I Should Be Quiet?

Kent Tompkins
In our society today there is a method of keeping people quiet. It is called the snitches get stitches rule. What is a snitch? Someone who shares information that is meant to keep on the "down low" and puts it in the hands of people that are not in the best interest of the person committing the actions. This rule is usually applied to law enforcement. When the police officers or detectives come around with the purpose of solving a crime people are already fed with the seed of silence in fear that they will be in danger if they speak on a crime. We see in history that this rule is taken very seriously.

People are hurt, even killed for giving out information that will help authorities get a criminal. Why do people actually take heed to this rule and pass this down to their children? People in this world are cruel and they have no regard for life. If they have to spend time in prison for something insane they've done and you are how they were caught you mind as well move far away. Is this right? No! If people see something they should be able to say something without fearing their life will be in danger.

There are people who died tragically and people around know exactly who is responsible for the death and won't say a word. They fear that they will be hurt if they give out the information which is the case a lot of the time. This is very sad and it is a shame people commit crimes in the first place. Why get mad at someone for telling what you did before you hurt someone else? Why should people have to fear and stay in silence? Unfortunately I follow that rule also. Snitches get stitches. The way people are nowadays, they will get someone close to you if they can't get you and that I cannot afford. It is a shame that we have to live this way but what can we do? I am not saying I will never talk on a situation very serious but I'd be careful about it. Very careful. Any thoughts?

I tell people that I won't lie on you but I won't lie for you either. I don't volunteer information that does not directly affect me or my family, but if I am asked I will tell the truth. That is why the criminals in my area keep their activities away from my place they know my household is fair but we won't lie for you.

It's rampant here in Rochester, NY, too. Its so bad that lately there has been a campaign here called "heck yes, I told". I'm not sure what I would do if I witnessed something bad. I'd like to think that I would help the authorities, but when even the Witness Protection program doesn't always work, well, what can a person do?

This is rampant in Philadelphia, especially North Philly. We have a guy on trial who lilled at least 8 people, half of them kids, when he set a "snitch's" house on fire. He actually had one murder case dropped because he killed the main witness. It's atrocious.

The only way I'd 'snitch' is if I felt someone would be in danger if I didn't.
