SNL Rahm Emanuel Skit Went After President Obama's Critics, Including Sarah Palin: See, You Can Be Critical Without Using the "Retard" Remark
Andy Samberg as Rahm Emanuel sat on the edge of his desk, and a picture of President Obama smiling is in the background. The fictitious White House Chief of Staff apologized for his "regrettable term" to the head of Special Olympics. He apologized to the American people in a very calm voice, and began apologizing to the progressive Democrats nicely, too, before lighting into them with a flurry of words, many of them had to be bleeped out. But "babies" and "turncoats" weren't bleeped out as he told Democrats he's been having a hard enough time getting health care passed without their undercutting him.
Then Andy Samberg went after Sarah Palin during the SNL Rahm Emanuel skit. He told Sarah Palin that he was sorry for his "retard" remark, then like Obama's Democratic critics, he began a profanity-laden tirade against the Fox News contributor, asking for an apology from her while lighting into the former governor for going after his brother Zeke over "death panels", then chastised her for being "a quitter who couldn't finish dinner". He also asked Sarah Palin, "What are you, 14" because she came after him on Facebook.
While many people might find the use of profanity and insults to be very unacceptable, the Saturday Night Live spoof piece did show that one has a true litany of fiery and descriptive words to describe political opponents. How often are these words really directed at political foes behind closed doors? And for how long, even during the good ol' days of yesteryear, when reporters were more hush-hush about what politicians said? Had Rahm Emanuel really used those fiery words used on the SNL skit instead of the "retard" remark, he wouldn't have had to apologize in the first place, right?
Do you think conservatives do the same thing that was portrayed in the SNL Rahm Emanuel skit when it comes to describing their political foes behind closed doors? Whether they do or not, if you leave the disabled out of criticizing your foes, including the "retard" remark, the apology hotline to the Special Olympics could be disconnected.

Post a CommentPalin really isn't that offended, she dismissed Rush's uttering of the same word.
SNL stopped being funny about 15 years ago...
Right On, Roy Barnes!
Maybe now Saturday night live will stop using the word retard???
I did love the skit. Hoping Loren Michaels has seen the light.
I don't like the name calling and insults. People can make a "point" without pointing fingers. Cheers on this.
