SNL -- Saturday Night Live -- Jennifer Lopez -- Sketch by Sketch Review 2/27/10

The entire cast gets together to sing We Are The World 3, a charity song to help out the disaster that was the song We Are the World 2. A funny premise, with Kenan doing a decent Quincy Jones. Not bad compared to most openings this year, and thank God it isn't a political opener.

MONOLOGUE -- JENNIFER LOPEZ -- 3

Jennifer Lopez talks about leading a simpler life while members of her entourage and fans blast her for leaving them behind. Not much to laugh about.

ESPN CLASSIC -- CURLING -- 6

Pete Twinkle and Greg Stink return for some goofy women's sports with an embarrassing sponsor. Jason Sudeikis and Will Forte, but they've gone to the well once too often with this sketch, and the disgusting jokes fall short.

DIGITAL SHORT -- FLAGS OF THE WORLD -- 8

A Lonely Island song with a bunch of silly flags. It's a catchy and funny song and the video works well.

HOLLYWOOD DISH JENNIFER LOPEZ INTERVIEW -- 3

Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig redo their clueless celebrity interviewers. When the funniest thing is a spit take by Bill Hader, you know a sketch is bad.

TELEMUNDO -- WINTER OLYMPICS -- 5

Hispanic anchors marvel at the silliness of an Olympics set entirely in cold weather with silly sports. A funny premise, but why does SNL insist on saddling ethic guests with sketches about their heritage.

UNDERCOVER CELEBRITY BOSS -- 7

Steve Jobs, Sir Richard Branson, Martha Stewart, Mary Kate and Ashley all work in their respective companies undercover, which goes about as poorly as expected. Amusing premise.

JENNIFER LOPEZ'S FIRST SONG -- 8

Can't find any information on the song, but it's a catchy breezy pop love song that wouldn't have sounded out of place on 70's radio.

WEEKEND UPDATE -- 3

Seth Myers gives another lackluster performance as anchor of Weekend Update, opening with several jokes that fall flat. Bobby Moynihan has an very funny bit introducing a You Tube clip that is forever buffering. Fred Armisen shows up to do his David Paterson impersonation in a restless and mostly humorless bit.

FUNNY LINE:

Gatorade finally dropped Tiger Woods as a spokesman after realizing that his thirst would never be quenched.

BESOS Y LAGRIMAS -- 4

A spoof of a Hispanic soap opera with Jennifer Lopez as a nun and Fred Armisen as her lover. The cast speaks Spanish and overemotes in Spanish telenovela fashion. Mildly amusing, but this is simply a lazy sketch that sadly seems written because apparently SNL believes Hispanic stars must do stupid Hispanic sketches.

OFFICE ROMANCE -- 6

J-Lo and Jason Sudeikis play an office couple making small talk while Kenan Thompson slides in with soulful asides every so often. Kenan gets excited by the action but then disturbed when the couple's quirks come out. It's funny, but ultimately another lazy sketch in a night full of them.

JENNIFER LOPEZ SONG TWO -- 4

J-Lo's second song isn't much.

MONSTER IN THE CLOSET -- 8

A little girl is afraid of the thing in her closet, which is revealed to be the group Smash Mouth. The biggest laughs tonight and the sketch actually has a scare in it.

CAR HORNS AND MORE -- 5

Jenny Slate continues the SNL tradition of thinking a character with a funny voice makes a sketch funny. This is funnier than the doorbell sketch she did a few weeks back, but still a bit of a snooze.

CLOSET ORGANIZER -- 7

A repeat of an ad run previously, probably to fill time. Funny then, funny now.

OVERALL -- 4

Jennifer Lopez appears comfortable and ready for the show, but the writers apparently all went to the Olympics up until this week. Not the worst episode, but shows the writers at their laziest.
