Sno Mountain Offers Summer Fun Too: Sno Cove Water Park to Open July 2007
$9-Million Park Features Wave Pool, Slides and More
Okay. So the actual thousands of gallons of water floating through Sno Cove did not come from melted snow. But starting in July of 2007 folks looking to cool off with some wild and wet fun can at the brand new water park, Sno Cove.
The $9-million project includes a wave pool, water slides, a lazy river, a children's pool and multi-level play area, bumper boats, batting cages and miniature golf. Sno Cove, located at the Sno Mountain Ski Area will make use of the existing restaurants on-site. So, in addition to water and outdoor fun, there will plenty of eats too.
When Sno Mountain purchased the former Montage Mountain from Lackawanna County in 2006, there were existing water slides in place. Those slides seemed to be the launch-point for the new water park. So, in addition to traditional straight and curvy slides are the Tornado and Matt Racer.
The Tornado slide takes riders in four-person rafts through a huge, colorful funnel shaped slide. Riders sway from side to side in the giant funnel and then are tossed the pool, after going through a waterfall of course. The Matt Racer is a straight slide, which pits two riders against one-another.
For those not looking to climb stairs, there is a lazy river and a wave pool to relax and play in. Also, Sno Cove offers nine acres of bumper boating fun. And, the boaters are actually using the ski area, Sno Mountain's snow-making water reservoir. (Talk about good summer usage!)
One non-water attraction is the Zip Rider, which is sure to give some thrills to people not afraid of heights or speed. Riders are places in a harness and zip down the ski mountain in mid-air via a cable. The zip line has riders going up to 65mph. A promotional video of the ride can be seen on SnoCove's website.
Sno Cove's website offers visitors the chance to virtually experience the thrills of the water rides, with some multimedia presentations, including videos shot from the point of view of the rider. Breathtaking views of the mountains can be seen as the videographer takes the plunge.
Elsewhere on the mountain: Sno Cove is located at 1000 Montage Mountain Drive in Moosic, Pa. Montage Mountain Road is also home to the Toyota Pavilion (an outdoor concert venue), the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Yankees PNC Stadium, the Shoppes at Montage, Cinemark movie theater and various restaurants.
