Snoop Dogg Has a New Album Called "Ego Trippin'"
Snoop Dogg is Back with a New Album Called "Ego Trippin'"
This album is all about giving the fans what they want. The one skit is the intro at the beginning of the album. Snoop Dogg takes it to the club with the third single "Life of Da Party". The track produced by Scoop DeVille is a light down south track with a danceable feel. It was definitely a good choice for Snoop Dogg because of the popularity of the down south sound. It features rappers Too Short and Mistah F.A.B. Other good tracks on this Snoop Dogg album are "Crip Walk" featuring the D.P.G., "Press Play", "Been around Tha World", "Gangsta like Me", and "Set's Up" featuring Pharell of the Neptunes. The not so great tracks on this Snoop Dogg album are "S.D. is Out" and the really out of place "My Medicine" featuring Everlast.
The track "Crip Walk" finds Snoop back with his group, the Dogg Pound Gangsters. It places Snoop Dogg right back in the "90"s when he first came out on the coattails of Dr. Dre. The track talks about gang culture and life in the state of California. "Press Play" is a track that is pretty strong. It has a nice beat and talks about Snoop Dogg still being relevant in the game of Hip Hop. The first single "Sexual Seduction" is already a top ten single on the Billboard Charts. It features Snoop Dogg singing with the aid of a talk box. It gives his voice an electronic feel and is very popular in the club. "Been Around Da World" finds Snoop Dogg talking about his wife and how special she is to him. This song is very nice and finds Snoop Dogg growing as a man incorporating different elements of his life to the forefront.
The misses on this album are few. The track "My Medicine" finds Snoop doing a country song with rapper Everlast. It finds Snoop Dogg outside of his comfort zone. The song will probably still be popular in some small circles but not as a hit. "S.D. is Out" is another track that finds Snoop Dogg just babbling about the same topics most rappers do: money, pride, and women. Nothing special about this track here but the beat again is very danceable and party friendly. Most of the album is danceable and Snoop Dogg follows the club formula to every beat.
Overall I give Snoop Dogg's "Ego Trippin'" a B+. Most of the album finds Snoop Dogg in a comfortable place. He does what does best which is provides entertainment. Snoop Dogg shows that he is not afraid to tackle new musical territory. Last time I checked that is what makes legend greats. This is a review of Snoop Dogg's "Ego Trippin'".
