Snoop Dogg Held Overnight in Sweden

Police in Sweden held Snoop Dogg overnight because he was thought to have been using illegal drugs. According to a police spokesman, he was later released after being questioned and having to submit to drug tests.

Snoop Dogg was stopped by police around 1:30am in the Swedish capital while he was in route to a party after a concert. A female cohort and Snoop Dogg had been believed by police to be under the influence of a drug so it was then they were taken to a police station.

There had also been another person in the vehicle with Snoop Dogg and his female companion but the Stockholm police have not released the identity of that woman.

Snoop Dogg appears to be the latest international artist to get into trouble after a concert in Sweden. Frontman for Babyshambles, Pete Doherty was fined after a concert in June 2006 after cocaine was found in his system. Axle Rose also had a run-in with a hotel security guard in Sweden during the same month and had to spend a day in jail with which he was released after paying a fine.

Most drug transgressions though are punished with fines, despite the fact that Sweden does have some of the strictest drug laws in Europe.

According to Matts Brannlund of the Stockholm police, Snoop Dogg was released just a little after 5am but he could still face a fine if his drug test comes back positive.

Brannlund could not say as to what kind of drug was found or whether or not it belonged to Snoop Dogg or not. Although a small amount of an unspecified narcotic had been discovered in the car.

Reuters quoted Brannlund saying " He was arrested for use of narcotics. It's illegal in Sweden to use them, even to have it in your system. You can see that a person indicates that he has used narcotics in looking at his eyes or his movements. (Police) suspected that he had taken drugs."

This is by far not the first run-in with the law for Snoop Dogg. He had been arrested in October 2006 he was arrested at the Bob Hope Airport of suspicion of illegal drug and gun possession. Then in November of 2006 he was held by police near Los Angeles when he had left the NBC studio. A search during this detainment had produced marijuana, cocaine, a firearm and also a false compartment in his car.

Nice reporting! I hope Snoop Dogg will stop getting in trouble. All that talent and money and he still has to do drugs. It's a shame.
