Snoop Dogg Joins Rock Band

Richard Banks
Rock Band has been a staple in gamers' libraries for the past two years. Harmonix has been a big player in the genre of social gaming. Combining a lead singer, guitar, bass, and drums, Rock Band allows novice musicians to rock out to some of the greatest acts of all time.

Within the realm of Rock Band, diehard fans have enjoyed music from rock gods Metallica to rock legends such as Aerosmith. Aside from popular rock bands, Rock Band has introduced the masses to groups such as Crooked X, The Konks, and Muse.

Almost a year ago, Rock Band, layered on additional fans by introducing country music into its lineup. The rock Band Country Track Pack included 21 tracks of today's hottest and biggest country stars. This genre had not been attempted before and became wildly successful.

What is next for the team at Harmonix and Rock Band? On the horizon is the fusion of rap and rock. Rap/Rock fusion isn't anything new. Back in the 1980's Run-DMC and Aerosmith collaborated on "Walk this Way." Groups currently in the set list rotation of Rock Band which incorporate a rap/rock fusion include Korn, Linkin Park, and Rage Against the Machine. Rock Band has not incorporated rap artists into the lineup, until know.

Rock Band announced Snoop Dogg has been added to their expansive set list in the form of downloadable content. Rock Band will provide gamers 8 of Snoop Dogg's most popular tracks. The release date is set for September 7, 2010.
