His album Doggystyle was released in 1993 and included the hit track Gin and Juice and Who Am I. These are two of the songs that are credited with starting the Gangsta Rap movement. Without these contributions to music by Snoop, music wouldn't be where it is today. Over the last 17 years, Snoop has sold over twenty million records and become one of the most popular artists in all of music. He has appeared in his own show on VH1 and made many appearances in movies. You may have seen him in Training Day, and Starsky & Hutch. In addition to success on the big screen, Snoop released Drop It Like It's Hot, this is one of the most popular Rap songs of the last decade. There is probably no Rap artist that has made a bigger contribution to popular culture than Snoop. This is why he has millions of fans that follow his music, purchase his clothing and follow his progress. A majority of his music discusses gang violence and formally belonging to the Crip street gang. This topic is still discussed in his recent music, it provides him with the credibility to connect with the fan base that has lived through the events he discusses in his music. It is this credibility that has allowed him to remain in music for such a long period of time. Snoop will soon join the video game world by having his music released through the musical game Rock Band.
