Snorting Crack like an Over-eater: Why Food Can Be Just a Bad as Drugs

"Escape" is one word many don't link to food, but the word is closely associated with all chocolate cravings, french fry-fixes, and down home comfort foods.

Addiction is one word many don't associate with food, but the word is closely connected to our need for something salty, starchy or soft and chewy. We need it. We gotta have it. We just can't eat one. Like a drunkard, people overeat to ease the pain. Below you will find out how to kick food abuse.

Go on some sort of fast

It doesn't have to be anything drastic, but it has to be difficult. That means no flimsy or real easy stuff. Tell yourself that you can't have sugar for months. Or cut meat out of your diet for weeks on end. I however, recommend beginning with sugar.

You'll start to go through withdrawal

Work in an office? Just watch what happens when you cut out sugar. You'll find yourself bored at your desk, and you'll just hear the vending machine calling. And if the secretary brings in free doughnuts, you'll feel as if you could slap her in the face.

How come everyone can eat sugar but you? And nope, I'm not being dramatic. Once you cut sugar out of your diet, you will truly see how dependent you are on it. You may even start to get mad at yourself for going on a sugar fast. But keep at it because there is a point to it.

Try a snack fast

If sugar isn't your pleasure, you just try to cut out snacking. Tell yourself you can only have three meals a day. Then, make yourself plan. You'll know that you have to pack a lunch for work and that you'll have to eat a full breakfast. You'll know that on the weekend, you may want to cook a big dinner so you can have leftovers throughout the week. And just in case you didn't know, snacking is not eating anything in between those three meals. When you go on a snack fast, you will really start to see the need to escape come out. Again, the signs will show up at work. You'll get a little bored and practically start munching your fingernails.

The snack fast can't be easy either. Make it go on for at least a month, everyday. If you are strong enough, maybe you can give yourself little treats on the weekends.

What these two types of fasts will do is cleanse your body of all of the bad things you've been eating for a long time. You will notice a big difference one you start to pick up something sugary again. It will seem like you are putting a strange substance into your body, and you'll think, "Why was I able to eat a whole bag of Hershey kisses without even giving it a second thought?" And you will say, "I don't even want it anymore."

Then, you've broken the addiction.

You'd be surprised, but food really can be like crack. A person who takes crack is looking to ease pain or stress. Most people who eat when they aren't hungry are looking to do the exact same thing. If you don't believe me just try one of the fasts above and your eyes will be opened. How do I know? I was on a sugar fast just two weeks ago, and I was a sugar feign. Now I'm like, "Jelly doughnut? Why would I want that?"
