Snow Buddy: A Unique Holiday Gift to Make for Your Kids

Shannon Wilson
I've found that being a parent makes me feel the urge to be craftier so when the holidays roll around, amidst all the mass produced gifts I do buy for my kids, I make my children a gift that I've put together with my own two hands. It makes me feel good to see their faces light up when they realize that I took the time to make them a special handmade item. This year my children are getting Snow Buddies. A Snow Buddy is a Snowman's head that your child can carry around with them or set up in their room as a holiday decoration. This article will give you details on what you need and how to make the craft.

What you'll need:
White sock (a child's sock or a small adult sock)
Yarn (white to match the sock or a different color to accent)
Pom Poms
Hot Glue Gun
Glue Sticks
Wiggle Eyes
Several paper towels or napkins

Putting it together:

First, you'll want a flat, clean surface to work on. Take one paper towel and crumble it into a ball shape. Take that ball and put it into a new paper towel and crumble the new paper towel around the ball shape. Do that with around 8 to 9 paper towels (or however big you want your snowman head to be).

Once you have your ball in the desired shape, place the ball into the very end of the sock. It should look like a sock that has a ball in it. Cut off a piece of yarn and tie it at the base of the sock where the ball part is finished. Make sure that it is tied well so it won't come undone. Now carefully roll down the very top of the sock to the ball base. You want to do it in a style that it looks like a beanie (like a hat). If you don't want the distraction of yarn hanging down on each side of the head, then trim it near the base but if you want it to look like your Snowman's hat has ties on each side, and then leave the yarn strands loose, just be sure that they are the same length.

Plug in your glue gun and get it warmed up. Carefully glue a pom pom at the very top of the sock so that it looks more like a winter hat.

The last step is to give your Snowman eyes. Take two wiggle eyes and glue them onto the front. Let dry completely and give to your child so they have their own Snow Buddy.
