Snow Day: A Poem

Rock One
The snow flakes are falling, girl, but I don't care.

It's hypnotizing, the way they perch in your hair.

Let's take the whole day and just sit, you and me.

It's easy to watch when you've got nowhere to be.

Put your boots on your feet, gloves on your hands.

The neighbors will laugh, but we'll build a snowman.

I don't care if you're waiting for a business call,

Turn off your cell, unplug the phone from the wall.

They say one man's trash is another man's gold.

Well, their "snow day" is our chance to unfold.

And their "cold weather" is our chance to stay warm.

I guess blessings come in some unlikely forms.

The sun's clocked out, but the snow's still at work.

Now the smile on that snowman looks more like a smirk.

We retire to the house once our snow day is done,

And we smile right back because our snow night's just begun.

Microwaving hot chocolate in an old coffee mug,

You teach me the warmth of a long, winter hug.

Put on some music, snuggle up by the heater.

The cold is bitter, but nothing else could be sweeter.
