Snow Eats Earth

winter
and i am the dark clouds that gather
to rip out the life from the earth with the snow
paint it white and disguise
all the features that make it
alive
and alive
and unquiet and i need the
bright colors, loud hues of springtime and summer
the vibrance of screaming pink
petals on pine-needled paths through the forest
the walks across streams i need
grassy beds
warm water
sun

i am drawn deep inside
of this homicide season
my words are my weapons, they're dull and they're
impotent
i can't say anything
nothing is all that i
have to combat
this disease

there is bitterness here, tinged with fear and regret
there is wishing retractable words
and disguises placed
carefully over my mask of i don't care before i fall out of the door
start the car
put a cd in
something disturbing in tone and in lyric
i wrap myself up
in malaise

winter, and i am the things
that make it feel dark.
