Snow Storm East Coast and State of Emergency

Stacey Doyle
The snow storm east coast has struck! From my office in Long Island, New York, I see the snow storm east coast from my window. The snow storm east coast promises to bring plenty of the icy stuff, perhaps even enough for a white Christmas along with announcements of a state of emergency.

I knew the snow storm east coast would be serious when I received a call from our local library canceling our family program to make gingerbread houses. After Gingerbread Houses, Tradition and How To Make One, we were all a little disappointed. With a state of emergency, it seems like a wise decision.

I decided to check out the snow storm east coast predictions from the pros. I visited AccuWeather and discovered: "New York City is expected to be buried by a foot of snow. Amounts will be smaller, 3-6 inches to the north and west of 287. Long Island will have 1-2 feet of snow!" Visit AccuWeather to find out more about the snow storm east coast in Virginia, New Jersey, Boston, Washington DC, Philadelphia and more along with state of emergency announcements.

It looks like the snow storm east coast will hit hard right in my neighborhood. I was ready to go Christmas shopping today (yes, I'm still not done) but the snow storm east coast will be keeping me home.

The Christian Science Monitor reports on the snow storm east coast and how it will impact Christmas shopping. New York City is working to keep streets clear for shoppers already with 2,000 snow plows and 350 salt spreaders. The report NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg said, "Cold weather is here. Hopefully, we'll have a little bit of a white Christmas."

Long Island handles snow storm east coast problems and a state of emergency more slowly. I anticipate being housebound for at least a day or two. I guess I'll be decorating the Christmas tree, wrapping and finally finishing my Christmas cards. I can go shopping next week...after the snow storm east coast subsides and there is no state of emergency.

One would imagine that a surplus of inventory in local stores will also mean better deals for post-holiday shoppers. What a mess! Snow and all!

With so many snowed in but not yet finished with xmas shopping - I wonder if online sales will rise? I read that they're meant to taper off at the last day of free shipping (friday) but perhaps some of these companies will smarten up and extend their free shipping offers for east coast shoppers who are boarded up at home with unfinished shopping lists. http://tictacdo.com/ttd/Survive-a-Winter-Storm - great resource for those on the E.Coast!
