December 27, 2010, Monday -- Sunderland, Vermont - A snow storm blew through the area last night and dumped about three feet of snow in the Southern Vermont area including the towns and villages of Sunderland, Shaftsbury, and Arlington.

Imagine getting up for work and are ready to go out the door only the door won't open due to feet of snow packed against it. This is what my husband faced as he was heading out the door to Where he works at Orvis in Sunderland. Once he manged to force the door open and had his work cut out for him with shoveling the porch free of the snow and then the driveway and clearing off the car. But there was so much snow, he was shoveling for forty minutes and only had half the driveway done and the car cleared off and he was already late for work. And then the road we lived on was not yet plowed. There was no way my husband was going to make it into work.

My husband got on his work laptop and wrote an email saying he was snowed in and working from home. He wasn't the only one. Many people were snowed in and working from home. The forecast for today showed more snow fall at 90% and it was quite windy this morning. We can only imagine how much more snow we will get if it will just be a few more inches or more. It is quite cold out with a high of only 19 degrees today. We are under a winter weather advisory and a windchill advisory.

According to an article titled "Blizzard Hits New England" by Stephen Singer, in the Bennington Banner flights and regional trains were cancelled but major airlines said they were expecting cancellations out of Boston until Monday. The Northeast was getting the worst of the storm which was a result of a low pressure system that came up the coast of North Carolina and strengthened on it's way northeast.

Thankfully, there have been no reports of power outages so far, but the cold weather and blowing snow will continue until Tuesday.
