Snow White Movie: Educational Activities and Games for 2 to 5 Year Olds

Rebecca Hayes
Let's face it, kids love movies, but it's been proven that they should watch no more than 2 hours of TV a day. So why not combine their love of a movie and activities that will help them learn and grow? Following are suggestions for the movie Snow White released in 1937. These activities would also work well for preschool classes and party games for this age group.

Watch the movie

Let your kids watch the show while you prepare the activities for the rest of the day or attend to other responsibilities.

Take a Trip

In the opening scene of Snow White, Snow White makes a wish in a wishing well. Go someplace locally that allows people to throw pennies into a fountain or wishing well. While there explain to your child that when you throw your penny into the water you are supposed to make a wish.

Mirror, Mirror On the Wall

Go into a bathroom or some other place where you have a mirror and talk to your child about what a reflection is. Tell them that in a mirror you see everything backwards. Show them a picture in a book and then hold the picture up in the mirror. Make faces together in the mirror.

Proper Hand Washing

In the movie the Seven Dwarfs sing a little song about how to wash their hands. Often we assume that our children just know how to do things like this and we don't take the time to show them how it should be done. This is a great opportunity to teach them the proper way to wash their hands, if they are being stubborn about washing encourage them to be like the Seven Dwarfs and get washed up. Show them how to get soap all over their hands, including between their fingers and underneath their fingernails. Sing the ABC's while they are scrubbing with soap to make sure that they clean everything. Then show them that they should scrub while they are rinsing too.

Work in a Mine

Put some dried beans in a bowl or box and hide "treasures" in the beans. These treasures could be as simple as a small wrapped candy, a bracelet, or a smaller favorite toy. Give your child a spoon and show them how to use the spoon to move the beans around until they find the treasure hidden under the "rocks".
