3D Snowflake Picture
Draw a large plus sign in the middle of a paper and then an x intersecting the plus sign to make a snowflake. Help your child draw a line of glue along the snowflake shape. Your child can then cover the lines with cotton balls or white pom poms to finish the snowflake. Other materials you can use to create the snowflake are large sequins, glitter, and pieces of pasta that have been spray painted white.
Coffee Filter Snowflakes
Show your child how to fold a coffee filter in half three times. Then cut triangles into the edges and unfold to reveal the snowflake. Other materials can be used, including construction paper, waxed paper, and typing paper, but coffee filters are the easiest for young children to cut through.
Snowflake Prints
Cut circles out of blue tissue paper and cut into snowflakes using the instructions for Coffee Filter Snowflakes. Get a piece of white cardstock or drawing paper slightly wet and press the tissue paper snowflake onto the damp paper. Carefully peel it off to reveal a beautiful snowflake print. Decorate with gitter. Each tissue paper snowflake will make several prints.
Q-Tip Snowflakes
Put a puddle of glue in the center of a piece of waxed paper and give each child six Q-tips. Have them form a snowflake with four Q-tips glued forming a plus sign, with the center in the middle of the glue puddle and the two other Q-tips forming an X over the center of the plus. Sprinkle the Q-tips with glitter and let dry. In a few days, you will be able to peel the snowflake off of the waxed paper. Attach a string to hang from a tree or in a window. Make smaller snowflakes by cutting three Q-tips in half and creating a six pointed snowflake.
Popsicle Stick Snowflakes
Let students paint four popsicle sticks in a light blue color and sprinkle with clear or white glitter. When dry, help students form a snowflake by gluing together the popsicle sticks to create a six pointed snowflake. Turn snowflakes into magnets, Christmas tree ornaments, or plant stakes by attaching a magnet, yarn loop, or long stick to the back of the snowflake.
Snowflake Cookies
Prepare and bake snowflake shaped cookies using your favorite sugar cookie dough. Ice the snowflakes and sprinkle with granulated sugar for sparkle.
