The Ohio Department of Transportation Road Crews are doing a good job of keeping the roads in good condition, but it is a battle they can not win as the snow continues to fall and the wind continues to blow.
Even though most drivers are going slow not everyone is being safe. While driving on the turnpike several drivers zoomed by me at 60 and even 80 miles per hour. The best advice when driving in winter weather is to slow down, give yourself a lot of distance between you and the other vehicle. Also most important do not travel if you do not need to.
My mission is to make it to Pittsburgh, Penn., before Thursday morning, but that may not happen given the forecast from the Weather Channel. The forecast is that snow will continue to fall until Wednesday afternoon.
Sitting in the hotel room looking out the window the only vehicles I can see on the turnpike right now are tractor trailers. If the Ohio State Department of Transportation declares a level three emergency only emergency vehicles will be allowed on the turnpike.
Roads in the downtown area of Cleveland are not that bad. The worst part of traveling in northeastern Ohio on this day seems to be on the interstates and turnpike.
I had just moved back to the north from the state of Alabama where even the idea of snow would cripple the entire region. Getting accustomed to winter weather may take some time. Dressing properly and having the proper supplies in your vehicle are very important. Getting stuck on the side of the road without food and or blankets would not be a good thing.
As the snow continues to fall snow plows will be out on the road doing their best to clear the roads. Once again, if you do not have to travel during this storm it would be best to follow the advice of state officials and stay off of the roads.
