So Delicious Coconut Yogurt in "Passionate Mango"

The Pen
I was doing my weekly shopping at a local grocery store looking for some good foods to eat for breakfast. And when I went to the dairy aisle I saw a yogurt that I'd never seen before called So Delicious.

What caught my eye was the label which had pictures of cracked coconuts on it, since I'd recently began learning about the benefits of coconut I interested. So I picked up one of the yogurts and saw that it was made with coconut milk and was dairy free and soy free.

At the time I really had no idea how a yogurt could be made without soy or dairy, but I thought it would probably be healthy so I decided to try one and picked up the Passionate Mango flavor. A 6oz container of So Delicious costs $2 which is a dollar more than the average soy or dairy based yogurt.

So Delicious as stated is dairy free, lactose free, soy free, and gluten free. The So Delicious website claims that the yogurt is rich in medium chain fatty acids and that it's formulated for maximum calcium absorption. It also has live active cultures (pre and probiotics) for enhanced intestinal health and is an excellent source of vegetarian friendly Vitamin B12.

The Passionate Mango contains water, coconut milk, passionfruit juice concentrate, mango puree, mango flavor, evaporated cane juice, pectin, chicory root extract, rice starch, locust bean gum, agar and other ingredients.

Passionate Mango has 130 calories, and 60 calories from fat. There are 7g of total fat, 6g of saturated fat, 0g of trans fat and 0g of cholesterol. It also contains 10mg of sodium, 19g of total carbs, 2g of fiber, 16g of sugar, and 1g of protein.

It wasn't until I was about to eat the coconut yogurt that it dawned on me that the yogurt was made from actual cultured coconut milk, not anything else which I thought was really cool.

So Delicious Passionate Mango was a pale orange color and I loved it from the first spoonful. The first thing I noticed was that there was no sour taste whatsoever that soy and dairy yogurts have. All I tasted were the very intense tropical flavors of the mango, passionfruit, and coconut.

The coconut yogurt was creamy and smoothly blended but it wasn't as thick as regular yogurt. It was well blended like a smoothie but it didn't have the chalky, phlegm-like after taste of milk. I also noticed that it was a lot more satisfying and filling than a traditional soy or dairy yogurt, and I believe that's because of the oils in the coconut milk, but even still it was much lighter and refreshing than a soy or dairy yogurt.

In the End...

I really liked the So Delicious Passionate Mango Coconut Milk Yogurt. I had no idea what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised by the delicious flavors and light texture and I actually liked it a lot better than regular yogurt. My only issue is that it's twice the price of the dairy and soy kinds.

But coconut milk yogurt is completely unique and I feel the taste is worth the price so I'll be buying more. Passionate Mango is a refreshing cool treat that's perfect for a hot day or whenever you just want to feel like you're in the tropics. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
