"So You Think You Can Dance" Results Show Preview: Melinda Goes Home

Sara Marsh
Tonight on Fox, one more dancer will be cut from the competition on the So You Think You Can Dance results show.

And if Melinda isn't the dancer who gets the axe, I may have to stop watching.

I mean, Melinda's a fantastic tap dancer, but that's it. I cannot take another week of gritting my teeth through her performances - not when all the other dancers are so much more skilled and talented than Melinda is. She's like watching a slow-moving car crash. And her personality doesn't help her out, either.

I was so pleased during last night's competition show when Mia Michaels and Adam Shankman both admitted that they sent home the wrong person last week (salsa dancer Cristina). Admitting it while they were critiquing Melinda after her performance was a little brutal, but I whole-heartedly agree with their assessment of the situation. It's too bad they didn't listen to Nigel Lythgoe and come to their senses in time to save Cristina last week.

That said, I certainly think they'll get it right on tonight's results show and finally give Melinda the boot. God help us if she's not in the bottom three dancers - what a mess we'll have if that's the case.

So, speaking of the bottom three dancers, now that we know who is going home, who else is going to round it out?

Well, we know that lyrical dancer Ashley, ballet dancer Alex, and b-boy José are safe - they're just too good and fun to watch.

Contemporary dancer Adéchiké really impressed everybody - including me - with his personality-filled performance last night, so even though he isn't as strong as some of the other dancers, I think he'll be safe. Jazz dancer Lauren was terrific yet again, so despite America's penchant this year for decimating the ranks of the female dancers, I think she's safe, too.

I don't want to talk about Kent. He is a terrific contemporary/jazz dancer, no question. But he annoys me. I'm sure he'll be safe, but I think a trip to the bottom three dancers might knock some sense into him. Ugh.

So, which other dancers are struggling right now?

Contemporary dancer Billy Bell, for starters. The judges made great comments about him last night that I believe were correct; if he doesn't learn how to dance with emotion, he's going to get cut from the competition. It's America's Favorite Dancer they're fighting to win, and performance makes up a lot of it (look at José, at last season's Legacy). I think that, despite his sweet personality and brilliant technique, Billy Bell will be in the bottom three tonight.

Contemporary dancer Robert. I like this guy, and I can't put my finger on why he's not a more successful dancer in the competition than he is. I guess, given the quality and magnetism of the male dancers on the show this year, Robert just can't quite hack it. I like him, but I think Robert will find himself in the bottom three for the second week in a row.

So, there we have it: I think that the bottom three dancers tonight will be tap dancer Melinda, contemporary dancer Billy Bell, and contemporary dancer Robert.

And I think that Melinda's going home. Finally.
