Pro: You get to work with your hands
Some of the happiest people in the world are those who do daily manual labor. They get to go home and leave work behind. They also know that they've done an honest day's work. You can be proud of yourself and others will see that in you as well.
Con: You work with your hands
Gardening is very physically strenuous. It will eventually wear on you so you have to take care of yourself and be prepared for that. Your back may ache, your fingers might cramp, and so forth. While everyone is different as far as what our bodies can endure, you should consider your own physical condition before making a decision as to whether gardening is for you or not.
Pro: It's consistent work
Plants, lawns, backyards, parks and other areas have to be maintained. Thus as long as there is greenery you will have a job. Most people take pride in their areas and want them to look nice but many people nowadays don't have the time to do it themselves therefore the gardening business is still growing in size. There will always be jobs.
Con: You're outside all day long
Rain or shine you have to get that landscaping maintenance done so if you're in Seattle you better have a rain suit. If you're in southern California you better invest in some good hats and skin care products because the daily sun beating down on you will take its toll if you let it. To be a gardener you must become accustomed to working in all sorts of conditions. It's part of your job.
Pro: You can work anywhere and work for yourself
Gardeners are needed everywhere so you could easily relocate and find work. Also, it's one of the simplest industries to go into business for yourself. You can own a company. While it might just be you employed you can still get all the benefits of owning a business when it comes to be tax season. Plus, you set your own hours and write your own check. Now that's the American dream. Gardening can bring you all sorts of good.
Con: It's often just you
Most of the time you'll be working alone or you might have an assistant or be an assistant but that's about it. So if you need a lot of socializing this isn't the good for your. Gardening is a very personal and reflective job that allows a lot of time to think about whatever it is you wish to think about.
