So You Want to Join a Direct Sales Company

With the New Year brings hopes of profitable new ventures. Joining a direct sales company is an excellent way to bring extra cash to your budget every month with minimal effort. Now, I'm not saying that party plans don't take work and dedication, because they absolutely do. However, starting out slowly, you can easily make a few hundred dollars a month by just working a few days.

One of the biggest hurdles to conquer when you consider starting a direct sales business is choosing from the plethora of party plans out there. There is virtually a party plan for almost every hobby, lifestyle and interest. The best thing to do before deciding on a company to represent is to make a list of your interests. If you are genuinely interested in the type of business you plan to start, you will be much more successful than if you join a plan simply because it is the cheapest or the most popular.

If you have kids, and many of your friends have children of around the same age, children's products may be the best idea for you. Love decorating your home? There are many party plans that are centered on home goods. Enjoy gourmet foods? There are several direct sales companies that offer amazing gourmet foods that customers can sample and purchase in their own homes!

Another advantage to finding a direct sales company in an industry that you are familiar with or have an invested interest in, is that you will be able to start out by selling to your circle of friends and gradually branching out.

After you make a list of your interests, do an online search for party plans that center around those interests. From there, make a list of pros and cons for each plan. Once you see it on paper, you should feel confident about the direct sales company you choose to join.

Before joining a direct sales company, it is imperative that you research that company to the fullest. What is the average per party sales? What is the turn-around rate for consultants? Is the company in good standing with the BBB? For as many reputable direct sales companies there are available, there are just as many, if not more, scams out there. You don't want to risk giving away your money to a scam artist!

Lastly, take the time to learn the business. Don't get discouraged if you don't make a thousand dollars at your first party, or even a hundred dollars for that matter. It takes time to become familiar with your products and your customers. Oh, and don't forget to have fun!
