So, You Were a Victim of Re-gifting, Were Ya?

Let's Admit It. We All Think About it or Actually Will Re-gift at Some Point in Our Lives

So, let's talk about a trend that is becoming more and more common; Re-gifting. As inappropriate as it may sound, re-gifting isn't entirely unacceptable unless it borderlines the absurd. For example, I had a friend that was re-gifted a shirt that was clearly not her size. She knew the brand and what store it came from and when she went to exchange it, oops. There was nothing in the system. It was that old. Ha! Now that my friends, is just plain rude!

Another type of re-gifting that might be considered inappropriate is when you re-gift to a person you just don't like. So out of sheer and pure laziness, you have decided to take one of Aunt Gilda's ugly sweaters and given it to your fellow co-worker because they were your Secret Santa recipient. Shame on you, but kind of funny don't you think? Everyone is generally sitting in a circle oohing and awwing over the other co-workers gifts, and here comes your disastrous gift of a sweater from Aunt Gilda 4 years ago. You secretly feel bad, but are laughing on the inside. Then the justification comes into play. Well, it's better that I pass it onto someone else so they might be able to enjoy it.

One year I received some clothing along with another relative that just did not suit our tastes. When taken back to the store, there was absolutely no record of these items ever being in the system. Now that's pretty bad. "Three dollars is what I can give you for the items." Ha-Ha. "Okay, I'll take it." I am still a little unclear as to the thought process (or lack thereof) on that one particular year, but it does make for good conversation, doesn't it? At first my feelings were hurt, but then realized that some people would rather make sure that you get quantity over quality. So what if the items were purchase eons ago and were waiting by bated breath to be distributed through the next several years? The thought process of others is not always intended to be understood.

So here, my dear readers, are a few words of wisdom when you decide to re-gift. First of all, never, ever re-gift something that has been used or slightly used. That is a big No-No. Secondly, do not forget where the gift originally came from. Oh my gosh, that would be both hilarious and humiliating at the same time, wouldn't it? And last but not least, should you decide to re-gift, please try and make is something nice and new that just didn't suit your tastes or your lifestyle. Hopefully this will open up some funny stories with your family and friends. So have a good laugh because as we all know, it takes more muscles to frown than to smile.
