We've heard the rumors. Some writers, this one included, has been afraid to do much reporting on it. Yet, another website, deadline.com (the one that Prospect Park previously cited would be helping to report their news) has stated what many other websites have stated. It has stated that Prospect Park is on the verge of pulling the plug or whether cancelling the project of putting the cancelled soaps "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" online.
On July 7, Prospect Park announced to the media and the soap viewers that they wanted to license these beloved shows and make history. Their plan sounded wonderful. They wanted to place these shows online and then hopefully onto other media formats. The first problem lies in the guilds and unions. A business venture like this has never happened. The key players have been negotiating with these guilds and unions from day one trying to come to an agreement between all parties. As today, it doesn't seem like these terms have been met. The next problem lies in the money. However, this issue can't even be addressed until all agreements can be ironed out with the guilds and unions.
Why won't the guild and unions bend? Only the key players in those meetings really know the answer to that.
What those on the outside of the meeting walls know are these facts. If Prospect Park fails and if no other network or production company comes forward to acquire these shows, the world of entertainment will suffer. Jobs will be lost. These two soap operas funded many much needed jobs in New York City not just actors, but stage hands, designers, caterers, etc. The entertainment world will also suffer from the lack of storytelling and the lack of jobs for upcoming actors. Many famous actors started their careers and learned how to become actors through these two soaps.
Deadline stated that today, the day before Thanksgiving, news could officially break that Prospect Park has permanently pulled the plug on what could have been a project that not only made history, but made soapers across the nation happy, gave hundreds of people their jobs back, but also set a new precinct in the world of television and the internet. If they do announce this news, it will be a sad day for many and many will mourn, once again.

Post a CommentDon't watch them myself, but I would like to see them be able to pull this deal through. Some of those actors/actresses have had the same job for all these years - they'll be lost without their show!
