Soap Making for Beginners - Soap Bases

So you want to learn how to make your own soap. It doesn't matter if you want to do it as a craft, or if you feel the need to due to the cost of store-bought soap.

Before you can make any type of soap, you need a 'soap base'. From that, you can add scents and essential oils to it. However, don't over-do it. Getting the right type is what you need to shop around for, and know what is better for you. If you've never made soap before, this is the way to start. When you look for the right base, be sure to read the label to make sure it's what you want. You can find the bases at any soap-making store, hobby or even online for soap-making stuff.

Natural Base - Make sure it's all natural. If the base is full of chemicals, you soap will be too. Read the labels, or call the company and ask for a list of what's in it.

Glycerin Base - This is a clear colored base, usually sold in blocks of around 11 pounds or so. Glycerin is a by-product of the soap making process in most soap companies. It is usually taken out and sold to soap-making supply stores for a profit. This is very good for the skin as it moisturizes and has healing properties in it. There are other types of glycerin soap bases such as goat's milk. This originates from the Rocky Mountains and has a creamy velvety feel to it.

Castile base - This base is free of any animal products and is made of vegetable oil. You don't want your base to be made of lard or tallow. These animal products made by the soap companies can clog pores and damage the skin cells.

Cost - The cost of making your own soap compared to the store bought, is actually cheaper and better for your skin. Your soap won't have all that extra harsh chemicals in it like the store bought does. At most soap-making places or hobby stores where you can get the blocks of soap bases, it's about $40 for a block of 11 pounds or so, plus a couple more for the scent's or essential oils you might want to add. You can use regular food-coloring for soap coloring. Most people figure that 1 bar of home-made soap is about .50 cents, a lot cheaper then store bought and more healthier for the skin.

I have had the pleasure of making soap at home and find the home made soap beneficial not only to my health but also to my mental health as it stimulates your mind, teaches you and others a discipline of self, I enjoy making the soaps and moisturisers and teaching others to sustain a self worth by creating something of their own for their own use.

It doesnt take much of your time, remember the safety rules always and profit from creating your own soaps and moisturisers and know exactly what you are administering to your body.

Become self sufficient, become independent, become knowledgable and you will become wealthier in yourself and your wealth.
