My experience with Soap.com began when I snagged a Groupon deal for them. The deal was $10 for $20 worth of products, and included free one to two day shipping.
The Soap.com website offers more than just soap. They sell cosmetics, fragrances, bath & body, skin care, over the counter medicines, vitamins, supplements, diet & fitness products and much more. The prices are comparable to store prices, and some items have available eCoupons to add to savings.
The Order
I ordered mascara, dish soap, carpet cleaner and laundry stain remover. My total was under $20, so I threw in some air freshener in order to use the full $20. Some of the items I ordered came with eCoupons, so I got $21.64 worth of items for $10.39. That is over 50 percent in savings. This includes no sales tax and free one to two day shipping.
Selecting items for purchase, getting more information about them and altering my shopping cart were all easily accomplished. It was a simple matter to use my Groupon promotional code and I was able to add to my cart after applying the promotional code with no problems.
I placed my order around 4 a.m. on a Thursday and had my order by 1 p.m. the next day (Friday).
When I opened the box I saw a problem. The carpet cleaning powder bottle had opened and at least half of the powder was all over the inside of the box, with the lid jammed between the side of the bottle and the inside of the box.
I called Soap.com and was treated with kindness. I was immediately offered a replacement and a $5 credit for the 'inconvenience'. Within 30 minutes of the call, I got an email confirmation that the replacement order was shipping and would be arriving on the next business day (Monday). Package tracking information was included. Logging into my Soap.com account showed that the $5 credit had indeed been applied and could be used on another order.
The Verdict
Overall, I had a very good experience with Soap.com and would buy from them again. However, I would look for items with eCoupons or items I can't get elsewhere for a better price (considering tax and shipping costs, too). I am a bargain hunter and coupon user, so buying items online for full price, even with no sales tax or shipping charges is simply not enough of a 'deal' or convenience for me.
Soap.com offers free two day shipping on orders that total $25 or more, so I would also be sure to only order when the total would be at least that much or when I can find some promotional deal that would sweeten the pot.
Tip for Groupon Users
Be sure to check other cities for online deals. I live in Utah but the Soap.com deal was listed with Boston, Massachusetts. There are limits, so if this Soap.com deal appears again, those who have used it before may not be allowed to buy a new one. Make sure to read the fine print.
