There needs to be more sports programs for children with disabilities to help them improve and learn to be social with other children. It is not expensive for a child to join the team. This year we paid $20 for Tyler to join the team. All we needed to buy him was his soccer ball and chin guards. This is a small price to pay for the affects it can have on your child. These children enjoy the game and they receive a lot of support from their coaches and family's.
Sports for children with disabilities are not as competitive as it is for other children. At times in these sports coaches want to win more than the children do. Often you will see parents fighting over the game. You will not see this in sports for children with disabilities. These children are all equal and they all get to play, none of these children sit on the bench due to them not being the best player.
More states need to get involved with sports for children with disabilities. This is something that doesn't take a lot of time to put together. If you are a parent who has a child with a disability, you yourself can make this happen. If you know other parents who have children with disabilities, that is where you can start. Ask these other parents how they feel about starting up a soccer team or any sport for these children. The first step would be by word of mouth. Next you can advertise in your newspaper or even send flyers out in your community. Once you have found enough children to make a team, you will want to look for a field where the children can practice and have their games. You may be able to find a field where they will not charge you for using their field. If you are charged a small fee for using someone's field, to pay for this you will just charge a small amount to the parents of the children to pay for this.
These children deserve to get out and do normal things and be around others who are like them. This helps these children in many ways. It doesn't take much to get this started, so if you are a parent or just someone who has the extra time you could start soccer or any sport in your area for these children with special needs. This allows these children to get out and be around others like them. These children on the LaGrange, Georgia soccer team actually has a really good time.
