Soccer Drills: 3 Sure-fire Tips to Teach Juggling

Andre Botelho
Let's accept it! All soccer drills are incomplete without a comprehensive session on Juggling. It is a basic skill that every soccer player must learn and be good at. It's an activity that is valuable not only for the beginners but also the senior players. In case of soccer exercises related to juggling, players juggle the ball with their thighs, head, and feet.

Being a warm up activity, it makes the muscles of players become warm and boosts their heart rate in just 10 minutes of juggling and therefore reflects its effectiveness.

The players get to study the close ball skills and the way to control the ball with the help of juggling. They develop a sense of controlling and maneuvering the ball amidst an opposition attack. To finish, they get more confidence with juggling and tend to unwind with the ball (an important trait necessary for a winning attack).

Throughout soccer practice, players get a chance to develop their special styles of juggling by practicing it separately. Being the coach, there are a number of tips that will prove useful to you.

When juggling with the foot, teach the players to use the top of the foot or the laces. The legs must be sufficiently relaxed and the foot bent when it makes contact with the ball. Instruct them to hold the arms out a little so that they can maintain balance.

When players juggle with their thighs, coach them to bring their knee up for the upper leg to stay horizontal. They should be made to understand the logic that the ball should touch the top of the thigh. It is crucial that the body is bent backwards a little and the arms pulled out straight so that balance is maintained.

It is difficult for the young players to juggle with the head. But, during the soccer drills, they must practice it at all costs. It requires estimating the right angle to bring the forehead in contact with the ball. They should hold the head sufficiently higher so that the eyes face the sky. The legs should be bowed a little and straightened up a little every time a contact with the ball is made.

In addition to this soccer training, motivate the players to use their shoulders, outside of the heels, and the back of the neck as well. It becomes necessary to bring these contact points into use under certain special circumstances. The young players should enjoy feeling the ball on their laces because this is the area that they will use the most to shoot the ball.

To conclude, it is important to highlight the factors of rhythm and balance. These are helpful in juggling the ball and therefore must be practiced. Teach the players to relax and anticipate the movement of the ball. After practicing, they will be able to juggle well.
