Social Networking is Proved Beneficial

The Benefits of Social Media

Lisa Wallace
Everyone knows that when you post gossip on Facebook or any other social network it spreads like wild fire. And the results usually end in a negative way. But what happens when you post something great? There are a lot of ways that social networks such as Facebook, Myspace, Bebo, Friendster, and Hi5 (the top 5 social websites) can be beneficial.

One instance is when it all started in New York City with a man posting a walk-a-thon charity event for The Heart Foundation. Barry Brandon Squillace is the president of The Heart Foundation in New York, New York. When Barry posted information about the walk-a-thon on Facebook, the response was enormous. Hundreds of people responded that they wanted to participate, however they were not in New York. Barry told friends that they were welcome to host their own walk-a-thon where they resided. As a result of this one posting, there were five other cities having walk-a-thons. Heart Walk-a-Thon Charities are being held in Atlanta, Ft. Lauderdale, St. Petersburge, Gainsville and Denton. When used properly, Facebook can be a great tool! Barry has proved that.

Small businesses often advertise on social networks to get the word out about their services or a sale. With so many people searching the internet now, it's hard not to come across an advertisement.

A huge benefit to having an account with one of the many social sites is the connection with families. Familis who live in separate states, or even other countries, can keep in touch. Sure, you could write a letter or call, but a letter can take weeks to get somewhere and a long distance phone call costs money, especially to other countries. When you use a social network you can stay in contact everyday or every few hours, depending on how much you go on the website.

Last year was the start of troops being allowed to use social media to stay in contact with family members. Families that have sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, husbands or wives fighting for our country are surely grateful for this communication. There is nothing worse than the feeling of not knowing if your loved one is safe, which is why for these people social networking is a major factor in their everyday lives.
