Social Security Disability

It is four o'clock in the early morning. I can't sleep. I need to get this off my chest. I am worried about a family member whose true identity will be concealed. I will call him Sam (which is ironic).

Sam is sick, he is truly disabled. After thirty laborous years in construction work, he can no longer provide for his family. He cannot work and does not have Health Insurance.

Sam is diagnosed with spinal stenosis. This is a disease that does not stop. The discs in his neck are degenerating progressively...decaying away. Sam lives in constant pain. Everyday is a literal headache. Sam can not look up. After two surgeries, his neck bones are fused together causing immobility. His arm strength is weak and numb. He drops things a lot.

Sam also has COPD. That is the term used for Chronic Destructive Pulmonary Disease. It is a lung disease that makes breathing difficult. This disease is progressive also. The life expectancy is an approximate ten years. The disease is caused by smoking and also inhaling dust ,which Sam got a lot of while working in the construction trade.

Sam hired an attorney and filed for Disability through the Social Security Administration. He abided his time and after two and a half years was rejected by the system .... the same system that Sam put his hard earned money into for thirty years.

Folks, this really is an outrage. It is a wakeup call. This same predictament has befallen a lot of hard working people. People whom have contributed their lives to their jobs and families. People whom put their blood, sweat and tears into the system.

I, personally, know the story of a young female, whom I shall call Susan. Susan was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She also hired an attorney and filed for Disability. Susan was also rejected by the system. Susan is dead now. A person can't get much more disabled than that.

I wish I was a better writer so I could better express the seriousiness of this matter. Bluntly, there really isn't much security in Social Security . The system has failed us.
