A private health care insurance company could provide an incentive against unhealthy choices by simply changing its tactics. For instance, such a company could offer a man, who uses illegal drugs, a rehab opportunity on the understanding that if he refused treatment, his coverage would be dropped. I believe that this is something that the government is incapable of doing.
Socializing health care might sound like a good idea, but since we live in an imperfect world, it's not. This isn't about rich or poor; it's about character. If the government were to socialize health care, the employed would be punished, and the unemployed would be rewarded. Therefore, socializing health care would be nothing but misery for the working class. It would be like taking a grade of 'A' from a high school honor student and cutting the grade down to a 'C' so that a person with a grade of 'F' could pass with a 'C'.
Americans already have laws that cover certain work accidents. Workers Compensation and Disability, are already under our government's control, and from what I understand, both of these programs are badly managed. I wonder, what would happen to these programs if government formed a socialize health care system? Are they to stay or are they to go?
We also have laws that protect us from toxins in our air, water, and food. The EPA, Environmental Protection Agency, and, FDA, Food and Drug Administration are suppose to protect the American people from a number of dangers. But again, since these programs are complicated, badly managed, and have failed miserably in their duties here recently. Doesn't food from China fall into the FDA's jurisdiction? Curious, are Americans absolutely sure that they trust their government to handle their health ?
The US public knows that health care needs reform. Our laws are outdated because Congress has failed or refused to solve these ongoing health care problems. Now that it is a crisis, maybe they will do something. Though I doubt it will be this year because Democrats and Republicans would rather pander it for votes during the 2008 election.
