Societal Effects After Columbine

Disasters like Columbine, emotionally disturbed many of our teenagers and adults. This disaster also brought scapegoating, more security in schools, and less rights for students.

The press and many adults of Columbine and worldwide turned to scapegoating. Some tried to blame the infamous Marilyn Manson, for his negative effects on teenagers. To me this is nothing but childish. Adults should know better than to blame something on another person. Marilyn Manson retorted, "Why not blame libraries, they are full of violent books?" That caught the press by shock and in turn they had nothing else to say.

Another effect of Columbine was more security in schools. Drug tests for clubs, cameras, locker searches, even security guards. This is all ridiculous. School officials took this to far. They tested for drugs on anyone, taking a random person everyday, namely the ones who stood out.

Blue hair, dog collars, and chains, baggy pants. School boards should be able to trust teenagers, but usually can't because of most guys are immature giving bomb threats and scares, which are also very childish.

This makes the students feel violated. Some of them fought back and regained some rights for themselves and fellow students, but its like each step gained, they had to take four steps back. I think that teens have the toughest lives today. They are pushed around and most of the time they can't do a thing about it. But I am proud to say that some teens won't stand for being violated. I'm cheering them on!

In conclusion, the Columbine disaster ruined many things for teens. One of them will never be PRIDE.
