Socks

Leslie Boe
Have you noticed that when you wash socks, one of them always disappears? Is it the washer or dryer that 'eats' them? Of course, it could be that it is stuck inside a pair of pants. Perhaps it is under somebody's bed. The possibilities are endless. Does anyone look for that missing sock? No. Usually other socks are worn until the missing sock turns up; that is, if it ever turns up.

Am I ever glad God isn't like that with people. Whenever one of His children strays off the right path, He takes time to find them. Sometimes He brings us back to Him with the help of other people; still other times He puts people in our lives to sustain and support us until we are willing to return to His way.

People were constantly crossing my path to shine a little light in my life and encourage me when I strayed from the path. First there was a high school friend who became a message sharing penpal through the years. Through the years, my sister has modeled her spirituality to me both in words and in her actions.

Some strangers have said the right thing to me at the right time, and my cousin has been more of an influence than she realizes. Two organizations that I participated in nurtured me in friendship and my skills. My confidence received a boost.

I am really lucky to be blessed with a surplus of people who are Christians. I only have my own thick-headedness to blame for not receiving their message earlier.

I am not a strong person, and without any direction or faith, I was especially weak. For several years, I reacted to many things in my life. I was emotional instead of rational and/or logical. I didn't ask God for his help, I felt that I could handle everything on my own. Boy was I wrong. Eventually I talked to God about what a mess I had made of things and asked Him to take over. He was always there for me, I simply had to reach out to Him.

Thank goodness He didn't give up on me.

Love the association! I will make sure to always try to find the missing sock now and get it back to it's rightful owner!
