Soft

Tina Twito
My tires on the rain soaked road
sound the whispered words
of misplayed music--
a distant tape heard backwards,
or a record needle bumping center
after the last song has played.

The sky ahead is softer still--
lilac clouds on baby blue.
Blanketed in soft
of sweep and sigh,
I travel soft the road
to safe
and warm
and home.
